Skip Hire FAQ's

Please find below a lost of frequently asked questions to help our customers as much s possible. If we have missed anything just give us a call or send us an email and we will be more than happy to help you.

1. How long can I keep the skip for?
You can keep the skip for up to 4 weeks BUT if you need it longer then just let us know and we can make a note not to collect the skip. There will be no extra charge for additional time you keep the skip.

2. How wide does my drive need to be to fit the skip on?
As long as a car can get on the drive then we can get a skip on. If you require the skip to be placed far back on the drive then we will require 9 foot width. If you do not have 9 foot width we can still get the skip on your drive but it will be placed at the front.

3. Can a skip be placed on a sloped driveway / over a fence / over a wall or on a garden as opposed to a drive?
We can place a skip on a sloped drive , over a wall or hedge no higher than 4ft and we can place skips on gardens. If you are really unsure then feel free to send a photo to info@smartskips.co.uk and we can assess this for you.

4. What does the price quoted on your website include?
The price quoted is for a skip to be placed off road , collection and disposal of the waste. There is no extra charge.

5. Can my skip go on the road?
We do not place skips on the road but we do offer an alternative people with no driveways. We can offer a wait and load service where the skip will be dropped at your property for 30 minutes while you load it and we will take it away straight away. This not only saves you a permit fee but also gets the skip and your waste moved with no waiting for collection!

6. What do I do when I have finished with the skip?
Give us a call or send an email to info@smartskips.co.uk and we will book you in for collection. Typically collection is within 2 days but during busy periods it can take up to 5 working days for collection so please notify us as soon as possible.

7. What happens if my waste goes above the sides of the skip?
If you overfill the skip then it can become unsafe to transport , therefore our drivers may refuse to take the skip away. To enable us to provide you the best possible service please ensure you order the correct size and if you think you are going to exceed the capacity of the skip then you can order a second skip from us.

8. How can I pay for the skip?
You can either pay  card over the phone or bank transfer. So we can provide you with the best possible service , please contact us to make payment at least 1 day prior to delivery to avoid delays.

9. Do I need to be in when the skip is delivered/collected?
If you pre-pay for the skip (card or bank transfer) then you do not need to be in, you can leave instructions when you order the skip so we know where to put it for you. If you would like to pay cash on delivery then someone will need to be in , we can give you a call 30 minutes before arrival.

10. Can I move the skip from where its placed by the driver?
In no circumstances at all can the skip be moved from where the driver has placed it. The driver assesses the best place to drop the skip so that they do not cause any damage to surrounding property , if the skip is moved and we are unable to access it then the customer will be responsible for the recovery of the skip by use of hi-ab or crane.

11. What time will my skip arrive?
We deliver between 8am - 5pm , we can ring you when we are on our way to give you a better idea of timing but we cannot give exact time slots for delivery. If you require an early drop off or a pm drop off then just let us know when ordering the skip and we will do all we can to accommodate your request.

12. What happens to my waste?
All waste is sent to a permitted materials recycling facility to ensure that as much waste is recycled as possible.

13. What access is needed for collection of the skip?
When you call for delivery we may come sooner than expected so please make sure your skip is physically ready and fully accessible for us to pick it up. Please ensure no cars are blocking the skip in or access gates are not locked.

14. Do you have a waste carriers licence and how can I check this?
We do have a waste carriers licence the registered number is - CBDU245125
